Today, April 1st, I was ordered to start the president’s blog by the head of the company. It’s hard to be a boss, huh?

I, Hironobu Matsutani, was born in Shimamae (Nishinoshima-cho) of Oki Island (Shimane Prefecture), known for the current hot topic of the Takeshima issue. He started his own company service at the age of 31. We have been conducting credit checks for 26 years, mainly for corporations and individuals.

Since graduating from university, I’ve only known about this research work, but I’ve been “three years on a stone” and somehow I’ve been able to have three meals and one drink in the evening, albeit in a very small way. Although we are a small company, we have established a research information network in major cities throughout Japan, from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south, and we have built a system to meet the needs of every customer.

If you have any worries or concerns, please feel free to email or call me. I or one of our sales representatives should be able to answer your questions in a very polite way.

Today, the Personal Information Protection Law went into effect on April 1. For us in the research industry, the application of this law is a matter of great concern. Originally, in the information society due to the spread of computers, there was a concern that the mass outflow of personal information could cause unexpected disadvantages to individuals, and the management of such information became a problem. This is natural from the point of view of human rights and privacy, and I think it is inevitable that this will be enacted into law. However, as the enforcement of the law gets closer and closer, I am not sure if it is out of selfishness on the part of the Japanese people, or if it is out of nothingness, or if someone is trying to make a buck by enforcing this law, but I think we are reacting a little too much to it. For example, some people seem to interpret that “any personal information must not be spoken without the consent of the person”, and no matter what you ask, there are a lot of people who say, “That’s personal information…, I’m sorry, but I can’t tell you anything…” and so on. The examples are endless, but at this rate, maybe Japan will become a paradise for crooks and a criminal paradise is on the way. That’s because it would be impossible for a third party to investigate whether you call yourself “a finance bureaucrat from Tokyo University” or “a top salesman of a leading trading company”. Even if a third party wants to confirm that the person is correct, the correct answer is that the company to which the person belongs cannot answer anything without proof of the person’s consent. If you turn this around, you can tell lies and cheat as much as you want. Why don’t we all think a little more seriously about what’s right and what’s wrong, instead of being a bit of an “it doesn’t matter” kind of person…
